A new month is here, and with it comes a divine reminder wrapped in our theme: “Chosen and Fruitful”, drawn straight from the heart of John 15:16. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.” It’s more than a verse, it’s your identity. This month, God isn’t just calling us to know that we are chosen; He’s inviting us to live as if we are. To walk boldly, to stop questioning our place, and to finally step into the fullness of who He created us to be.
This past Sunday was Karibu Day at Ruach West, a moment set aside to welcome every first-time visitor who’s joined us in the past six months. But let’s be honest, you didn’t just “happen” to walk in through those doors. You didn’t just come because someone invited you or because you were curious. Whether you knew it or not, it was God who orchestrated your steps. Your arrival wasn’t a coincidence; it was a divine appointment. You were chosen. Handpicked. Set apart
There’s something sacred about knowing that before the foundations of the world were laid, before your parents even met, God already had you in mind. He saw your face, knew your name, and wrote your story with intentionality. You are not random. You were created in His image, visited by His Spirit, and invited to sit at His table, not as a guest, but as a son, a daughter, an heir.
Pastor Flavia reminded us in the first service that there’s a journey every human being walks through: the moment of creation, the moment of visitation, and the moment of invitation. And perhaps the most beautiful truth is this: God didn’t wait for your permission to love you. He came for you first. Before you could say yes to Him, He had already said yes to you. That’s what grace is: love that chases you down when you least deserve it. The very day you gave your life to Christ was a visitation. The day you walked into Ruach West was another. You were being guided, not by feelings, but by God’s hand.
And when God visits, you cannot remain the same. When he invites you to the table, it’s not just to sit, it’s to bear fruit that lasts. Because when Christ enters your life, He doesn’t just comfort you, He transforms you. He unlocks the gifts He placed inside you long before you even knew they were there. And suddenly, the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, kindness, starts to grow, not for your benefit alone, but for those around you. Just like a mango tree isn’t fulfilled by simply existing, but by feeding others, your life was meant to nourish others, too. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you were chosen.
You may think your story disqualifies you, but God doesn’t choose based on perfection; He chooses based on purpose. Pastor Donald beautifully reminded us in the second service that being chosen is not something you earn; it’s something you receive. Just like a child in a children’s home doesn’t earn adoption, you didn’t earn God’s love; He simply fell in love with you. He saw you sitting under your own fig tree, like Nathaniel, and He called you out by name. Not because you were righteous or ready, but because you were His.
And when God chooses you, He also empowers you. He gives you everything you need to be fruitful. You don’t have to strive for validation or beg for acceptance; heaven has already approved you. Stop exhausting yourself trying to fit in or perform; God has already picked you out of the crowd. Your background doesn’t disqualify you. Your mistakes don’t cancel your calling. Your insecurities don’t intimidate your Savior.
Think of David, overlooked by everyone, even his own family, yet chosen to be king. Think of Rahab, a prostitute, grafted into the lineage of Jesus. Think of Gideon, hiding in fear, called a mighty warrior. Think of Peter, unstable yet chosen to lead the church. And even Elijah, bold in one moment, depressed in another, yet God still used him to shift nations. If God can use them, He can surely use you.
There’s a reason the enemy tries to distract you with depression, discouragement, and delay, because he knows how powerful you’ll be once you believe that you’ve been chosen. Depression isn’t just sadness; it’s a demonic whisper that tries to convince you that your life doesn’t matter. But every time you hear that voice, speak this truth: I am chosen by God. I am not random. I am not forgotten.
The world is groaning, waiting for the manifestation of who you are. You are not empty. You are not behind. There is a seed of greatness planted within you, and when the time is right, it will bear fruit. If things have been delayed, it’s not because God has denied you; it’s because He is preparing you for something greater. Delay is not denial. There is a miracle in the making.
So as you walk out of this week, walk with your head lifted. You are not just someone attending a church service. You are a chosen vessel. You are the fulfillment of prophecy. You are the answer to someone’s prayer. You are a story that heaven is still writing. And when God chooses you, He sustains you. By grace, for purpose, and unto fruitfulness.
This is not the end. It’s the beginning of a new chapter. You’re here for a reason.
You are chosen. You are fruitful. You are not random.
