Breaking Boundaries

We often strive for success in one area, seeking high rankings like in academic endeavors. However, it’s important to remember that everyone has a role to play, whether it’s on the front lines or on the sidelines. Ecclesiastes 9:11 reminds us that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill. But time and chance happen to them all. This means that success is not determined by physical strength or intelligence, but by time and chance. Instead, we should focus on serving and being servant leaders, listening more and speaking less. Jesus in John 12:26 says that if anyone serves Him, he (the servant) will be honored by the father (God).

This is exemplified in the stories of Abraham and David in the Bible. Abraham, with his 318 trained men, chased after kings who kidnapped his nephew Lot. These were men who Abraham trained to fight wars. Similarly, David had warriors who aligned with him when he parted ways with Saul in 1 Chronicles 12. They were skilled in battle, but some also understood the times and knew what was best for Israel.

An effective servant leader is one who prioritizes listening and paying attention, rather than speaking excessively. It is important to remember that there are times when remaining silent is more appropriate, as stated in Ecclesiastes 3:7. By listening attentively, we can hear not only what is being said, but also what isn’t being said, and allow God to guide us. Being aware that we are saved and that we are a new creation, as outlined in 2 Corinthians 5:17, is important in embracing stewardship and remaining faithful. A good servant leader should always strive to bring out the best in others. The Lord is always seeking our attention and we should always be ready to serve him. Failing to do so may result in God choosing someone else to fulfill the task. Therefore, it is important to focus on listening and being attentive, putting aside other thoughts, and becoming who God has called us to be.

Embracing stewardship and being faithful is also important, as it means exercising authority over others through service rather than through power. Whoever wants to be great must be a servant, as the best way to lead is through service. The fruits of the Holy Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, are qualities of a good servant leader.

In conclusion, success is not just about being gifted and achieving a high rank, but about giving one’s all and actively participating in life. By serving the Lord, being a servant leader, embracing stewardship and faithfulness, and allowing ourselves to be guided by the fruits of the Holy Spirit, we can become who God has called us to be and be found worthy in His eyes.
