In case you’re wondering what a chama is, let me rephrase it: “The Church is not a members-only club.”

Before you come for the messenger, know that this was a bold submission by Elder Edwin Muriuki during the Forerunners Service, where he taught with such ease, clarity, and spiritual insight about what the Church truly is, and our responsibility in legislating God’s agenda here on earth.

This month’s theme, “I Will Build My Church”, is a powerful overflow of what was released during Rhema Feast 2025, held earlier this month at Uhuru Park, Nairobi. There’s a clear, resounding mandate in the Spirit: the Church must arise and take its rightful place. That’s why Elder Edwin’s submission is crucial.

Let’s go back to Matthew 16:13–20, where Jesus has a very intentional conversation with His disciples. First, He asks, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Then He narrows it down to something more personal: “But who do you say that I am?”

This wasn’t a random question. The disciples had walked with Jesus for a while. This was a journey of preparation – one that would equip them to carry the gospel after His ascension. Jesus was probing their revelation. Did they truly perceive that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God?

Revelation of who Christ is gives us power. …on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18-19 (NKJV)

It’s not the act of coming to church, or being born into a Christian family, that gives you power. It is the revelation of who Christ is, and the confession of that revelation that shakes the gates of hell. That’s what unsettles the kingdom of darkness. Revelation gives power.

And with that power comes a mandate:
To expand the Kingdom of God and deploy the grace He has apportioned to us.
Pastor Donald Gichane expounded on this using the life of Joseph; marked by divine preparation and positioning. God, the Master Builder, carefully engineered Joseph’s journey so that when he finally stood before Pharaoh, he knew exactly how to behave in the palace, and how to respond when it was time to speak.

So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”Genesis 41:16 (NKJV)
Joseph removed himself from the equation and redirected the glory to its rightful Owner: God. But he didn’t stop at interpreting the dream. He offered divine strategy; wisdom from above on what should be done. The result? An office was created just for him.“You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word… I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” Genesis 41:40–44 (NKJV)

A Hebrew slave became second-in-command in a foreign land. Why? Because he carried divine revelation and wisdom and knew who truly held the pen to his story.

In this era of social media, likes, and viral content, it’s easy to think that visibility equals validation. But let’s be reminded: our unveiling doesn’t come from platforms or applause, it comes from God. He holds the blueprint of our lives. And when He can trust us with our gifts, talents, and skills, He uses us as vessels for His glory.
Yes, skill is important, but what matters most is what you do with it and who it points to.

So, develop what you’ve been given. There is a race and a grace that has been specifically apportioned to you. Run with it. And above all, let Christ be your anchor.
