Think back to a moment when you were selected for something special. Maybe it was a role you wanted, a job others were eyeing, or even a simple moment of being picked for a team. Do you remember how that felt? Being chosen carries weight. It tells you: There’s something about you that stood out. But here’s the truth the world often misses: every believer in Christ has been chosen and appointed; handpicked not by chance, but by divine design.
The Bible tells us in John 15:1-2 (NKJV): “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” With this imagery, Jesus invites us to picture our relationship with Him: He’s the Vine, we’re the branches. The Father carefully tends to us as the Vinedresser. A branch disconnected from its vine has no life in it. It’s the connection that sustains it.

Pastor Flavia Murugi used a modern analogy that stuck with me. Imagine walking into a place. There’s Wi-Fi. The signal is strong. But unless you connect using the right password, you won’t browse, download, or access anything online. It’s the same in our walk of faith. Without connection to Christ, we’re offline, unable to access the life and power God has designed for us.
In John 15:4-5, 7 (NKJV), Jesus says: Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. [5] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. Without abiding, without remaining connected, you won’t bear fruit. Your gifts won’t blossom. Your calling will feel like a distant whisper instead of a daily reality.

But here’s where it gets even deeper. Pastor Donald Gichane built on this in the family service by bringing our attention to John 15:16 (NKJV), You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. Every believer in Christ has been appointed for a divine assignment, one that produces lasting fruit and brings glory to God. You weren’t randomly tossed into existence. Before you ever thought of God, He had already thought of you. Before your parents planned for you, or didn’t, He formed you with intention.
As Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV) proclaims: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” In other words, before your life began, your assignment was already sealed.
So why does this matter? Because many of us disqualify ourselves based on what the world sees or doesn’t see in us. Maybe you feel overlooked, small, or underqualified. But God delights in planting potency in small packages. Think about it: A sperm cell is microscopic, yet it carries life itself. A mustard seed, the smallest of seeds, yet Jesus says in Matthew 13:31-32, it grows into a tree, offering shelter to birds.

What’s inside you might look small to others, but it’s mighty in God’s hands. You don’t need a stage, applause, or validation to walk in your calling. Heaven already endorsed you. Your divine appointment isn’t dependent on human recognition.
So, what should you do?
- Stay connected: Abide in Christ daily. Let your life flow from Him.
- Seek your assignment: Ask God, “What’s my mission?” and listen expectantly.
- Trust the potency of what’s in you: You’re carrying seeds that can change nations even if you feel small.
Remember Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV): “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
You’ve been chosen. You’ve been appointed. You’ve been empowered.
Whether or not you feel it, whether or not anyone else sees it, walk with your head held high. Your assignment isn’t pending. It’s active.
Now, go and bear fruit.
