In life, we all encounter moments of darkness, uncertainty, and hardship. It is during these challenging times that we long for a brighter future. As we delve into the narrative of 2 Kings 7:3-20, the story of four men with leprosy comes to the forefront.
They were at a crossroads, either to stay and die of hunger or go to the camp and face opposition. They courageously venture into enemy territory, only to discover it was abandoned but filled with food and riches.
This illustrates how stepping out into uncertainty can lead to unexpected blessings. The story of the four men with leprosy also teaches us that moving forward requires the courage to step out into the unknown. They recognized that staying in their current situation was as good as perishing, and chose to step out, embracing the uncertainty before them.
In Ecclesiastes 9:11, we are reminded that time and chance happen to all. We see this truth echoed in the lives of these lepers and the man seated at the pool for 38 years, as described in John 5, waiting for healing. These individuals were immobilized by their circumstances, trapped at the entrance of their gates. Yet, amid their struggles, there remains a glimmer of hope—a reminder that transformation is possible for all of us.
Change often ushers in new opportunities as God makes all things new. As we navigate the shifting tides of life, we must remain attentive to the doors that God opens. Too often, we fail to hear the Lord’s voice and see the opportunities that lie before us. Jesus assures us that we should also listen to God’s voice, just like the shepherd whose sheep know his voice. By listening to Him, we can overcome doubt and hesitation.
While His ways may not align with our plans, He knows the perfect course for our lives. Prophet Jeremiah reaffirms this truth, assuring us that God’s plans are filled with hope and a future.
However, we must step out of our comfort zones to move forward. Let us not worry about the uncertainties as God will guide and instruct us, providing the confidence we need to explore uncharted territories. Stepping out and embracing change is a necessary step for new growth. It requires us to forget the former things and take that first courageous step in the direction given by God.
But stepping out is not enough; we must also step up. I Thessalonians 4:11 encourages us to lead quiet lives, focusing on our work, and Colossians 3:23 reminds us to put our utmost effort into everything we do. Avoiding idleness and disruptive influences also ensures that we stay on the path of purpose.
