No Greater Love

Jesus used the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25 to teach his followers how great it was to love others. A law expert asked Him to explain what one must do to inherit eternal life. However, he reiterated what the scriptures say by asking what was written in the Law.

The law expert responded that you must love God and your neighbour. Jesus explained that a neighbour is someone you have mercy and love for, like the Samaritan who cared for the man who was attacked and beaten by robbers.

Unlike the Priest and Levite, who passed and ignored the injured man, the Samaritan showed his love through actions. Love thus has a litmus test, and you can identify it by someone’s actions. 1 John 4:19 warns that whoever does not love their brother and sister or someone they can see and relate with, cannot love God.

Let us also put the needs of others before us and overcome prejudice. To love, we should also overcome Christian looks and actions. Just like God, who gave us his best gift, his son, the most priceless possession. This shows that God’s steadfast love never ceases. He gave Jesus to reconcile us with Him.

He emphasizes that love is sacrificial compassion. John 15:13 adds that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend. God commands us to love one another, with Jesus emphasizing that as the Father has loved us, we should reciprocate by keeping the commandments. And Jesus rewards us with the Holy Spirit if we keep God’s commandment as written in John 14:15.
