The power of life and death lies in the tongue. Many wars have been started by words. Creation as we know it began by speaking the Word. So we need to be mindful of the words we allow into our lives for they have the power to either produce life or death. The environment we live in is sometimes toxic and is capable of producing some of the most bitter people. Bitter and hateful people speak and produce after their own kind. The fact that a young man spent his life perfecting his skill as a footballer to achieve the highest honor of playing for his country only to be abused because of the colour of his skin is a tragedy. This is as a result of a toxic environment that produces toxic men and women that speak death rather than life.
I believe that a man is responsible for the words that come out of his mouth and should bear the consequence thereof. I also believe it is vitally important to sieve the words we allow into our minds. Because of this critical truth about words is why God does not waste them. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word that comes from our God.
People who have been through depression will agree that the one common thing they all go through is how loud the dark voices speak to them. That when they came to the point of contemplating suicide they were not thinking about anything or anyone else who will be affected by their actions because of how loud the voices had become in their mind.
But did it all start now? Or is it a conditioning of the mind only to believe and listen to what kills you rather than what gives you life? Every morning people are subjected to radio stations that mostly speak death to institutions that bring life and are the very core of society. A friend and namesake of mine came up with a movement called Cleaning The Airwaves (CTA) and it’s about time we all do.
Everyone with a voice has a responsibility to the words they speak. If I am a radio presenter and my words each morning is to destroy the marriage institution, the very institution that is the core of society, I end up promoting the breaking of homes. We then raise up a people who are morally broken and sing songs that are so profane it would make Kenwood speakers burn. The nerve of the same radio presenters to call out the youth and say Kenya is going in the wrong direction and yet they have been part of the problem, but I digress.
The Word says Be still and know that I am God. It is in the stillness of our minds that God’s voice is audible. Bishop Jakes used the example of his wife trying to breastfeed their child who was frantically crying. His wife was frustrated because she had the answer to what the baby was crying for but the baby was crying too much to see. Sometimes we are like that baby, allowing the loud voice in the world to make us think we are useless. We are foolish. We are undesired. The devil is a liar. Be still and Know that He is God.
This brings me to the word discernment. Discernment is knowing the difference between right and almost right. The greatest threat to the future of the world is religion. Religion to me is the almost right. So called prophets who prophesy lies while some have the audacity to use the word of God to further their own personal agendas. Just because one is able to speak some truth they can still use that to base their lies. As stated earlier it is also the responsibility of the listener to know which is truth and which is almost truth. Salvation is a personal journey and every man or woman should work their own salvation with fear and trembling.
In conclusion, when the devil was trying to tempt Jesus, he came to Him when Jesus was weak , hungry and most vulnerable. He said it is written…he used the scripture to tempt Jesus. An almost truth. And Jesus replied using the same scripture. It is important to know who we listen to most. Jesus himself asked a question to the disciples, “Whom do you think I am?” and He allowed them to answer. He knew the answer He was looking for and wanted to know who amongst them would listen to the still small voice in them . Peter finally answered and Jesus said, “ Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you….”
Sons of God allow me to submit to you that God is still speaking to you all day everyday. If we could only listen and pay attention to the still voice of God. Let’s not repeat the mistake of Adam and assign blame to people when God also speaks to us directly.
God bless you.
