The bible says that Adam used to walk and talk with God in the cool of day. I can only imagine their conversations. What was the main topic? How long did they speak? What secrets was God telling Adam? Their relationship was as real as mine is with my sons. So, the devil comes and speaks to Eve and she is deceived, and later Adam falls as well. When God came to have his daily walk and talk moments Adam was hiding. When God called out for him, he said,” I was hiding because I am naked; so, I hid.” And God asked Him, “who told you that you are naked?”
I can never forget a scene from a movie I watched called brave heart when William Wallace was betrayed by his friend and countrymen Bruce. If I could have seen the face of God when Adam said “I was naked and so I hid”, that must have been how he looked, betrayed.. Any relationship is built on trust. I remember the age where there were no cell phones and you and your friend made an appointment to meet in town at noon at Kenya cinema. You had to be there at noon or at the very least 15 minutes later. Anything past that, the meeting was considered missed. If you missed two or three such meeting your friendship was on the rocks. If you cannot keep your word on simple matter such as time keeping what good is your word with my vulnerabilities.
A woman kept on telling her husband that he looked good in red until one day the husband started wearing blue. The woman wondered why until she overheard his female workmate tell him how good he looked in blue. What hurt the most is that the husband esteemed the word of her workmate more than he did hers. At this point God’s word to Adam was esteemed more than anything else until someone else spoke and Adam believed the lie over the truth.
David was just a little boy facing a giant in war. King Saul even said what can you do against a man who has been in war most of his life? Not only are you outsized but you are inexperienced against such. An impossible task it seemed, especially when the voices around you tell you that you will fail, you will never win, but the voice of truth tells you a different story. Remember the giant had been taunting the Israelites for days on end and the story was no different especially seeing a little boy face him. Great faith must be accompanied by confession. David tells the giant,” you come at me with sword, spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike you down and cut off your head.” And sure enough the head of Goliath was cut, and his body eaten by dogs and other creatures just as David had declared.
The same is seen in the story of Elijah speaking to King Ahab said,” As the Lord God of Israel lives whom I serve. There will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” Sure, enough it was so and later when it was time for his word (Elijah) to come where he would call out for rain it was no easy task. He called out for rain in the middle of a drought. No clouds on sight. All the weather forecasters had announced clear skies for the next 30 or more days and here comes Elijah saying it will rain.
What do you do when what you see on the inside is totally different from what is happening on the outside? God spoke to you this year and said this is the year of restoration but then Covid 19 happened. You start to ask yourself did God really say this year? This same phrase seems familiar don’t you think. The serpent said to Eve did God really say? Elijah sent his servant to look at the skies and report to him. All the reports, six times, were not matching what God had shown him but each time the news came to him, the bible says Elijah put his head in between his legs to shut out the outside voices and keep on hearing the voice of Truth. The report came to Elijah that there was a cloud the size of a man’s hand and immediately he tells King Ahab there will be an abundance of rain. And again, Elijah was right as rain.
Faith is believing what God said concerning you. Because we are born in sin there will always be two people, the old and the new fighting. When Queen Elizabeth became Queen, her grandmother sent her a letter. She said,’ While you mourn the death of your father Lilibet, you must also mourn someone else. Elizabeth Mountbatten. For she has now been replaced by another person, Elizabeth Regina. The two Elizabeth’s will frequently be in conflict with one another. The Fact is, the crown must win. Must always win. This is true of salvation the old man and the new nature will always be at war with each other, but the fact is, the Crown must win. Must Always Win.
God Bless
